When Claudius landed in Britain in 43AD with over 40,000 men he already knew that Britain was a land of wealth and tradition which had taken on many of the trappings of the Roman world. But how had this come about. Why was most of southern Britain 'Romanised' in all but name before hand, What has Julius Ceasar got to do with the story - and who invented coins?
What did Proto-historic Britain, the last 200 years of the Iron Age, look like? Who were the Dobunni and the Atrebates? Did the Celts ever exist? Find out tonight as archaeologist Bob Clarke discusses the evidence from across the south west.
